Featuring:

Gustavo Dudamel, conductor

Program:

Corigliano: Symphony No. 1

Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel performed the Polonaise from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin as an encore.

Ace conductor Gustavo Dudamel brings his Los Angeles Philharmonic back east following the ecstatic premiere of John Adams’s Gospel According to the Other Mary last season. In this orchestral program, John Corigliano’s First Symphony of 1989 expresses “rage and remembrance” for friends who died of AIDS. The afternoon concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, which traverses the hard-won path from tragedy to triumph.
