The Relatives: Target Free Thursdays

Brought together in Dallas, TX by veteran Gospel singer Rev. Gean West in 1970, The Relatives’ sound bridges the gap between traditional Gospel, Soul and Psychedelia. In the early 1970’s, they recorded three obscure singles and a previously unreleased session—all of which are brought together on the 2009 album, Don’t Let Me Fall. The record has sold briskly, received favorable reviews and excellent radio play in the U.S. and abroad. As thousands of audience members can attest, The Relatives’ ability to capture the authentic sound of 70’s Psychedelic Soul and Funk live on-stage is second to none.

The Relatives reunited in 2009 for a stunning performance in front of a sold-out crowd at The Continental Club in Austin, TX. Since then, they’ve blown away crowds far and wide including major festival dates in the U.S., Australia and Europe. The Relatives closed out their Summer 2011 dates with a blow-out performance at NYC’s Lincoln Center where they shared the bill with Gospel/Soul legend Mavis Staples. In 2011, The Relatives combined forces with Garage/Soul powerhouse Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears for series of crowd rocking festival shows in the U.S. and Australia. “You Been Lyin,” a track they recorded with Black Joe Lewis, appears on BJL’s latest album, Scandalous (Lost Highway/UMG). Their Austin City Limits TV taping with Black Joe Lewis has been called by longtime fans and ACL staff “one of the best we’ve ever seen.” The Relatives’ new album, The Electric Word, was recorded and produced by Jim Eno of Spoon and will be released by Yep Roc in February 2013.
