Commissioned by Lincoln Center for the world debut of a new work by Jherek Bischoff featuring 30 minutes of new music, and be performed by Bischoff himself, accompanied by yMusic and the percussionist Greg Saunier, best known for his work with the band Deerhoof.
Bischoff is a songwriter, producer, performer and composer from the Pacific Northwest who has been called a "pop polymath" (The New York Times) and a "Seattle phenom" (The New Yorker), drawing early comparisons to similarly uncategorizable multi-hyphanate musicians like Van Dyke Parks and John Cale. In early June 2012, Bischoff released Composed, a meticulously arranged, multi-tracked orchestral pop album featuring a host of famous guests including: David Byrne, Caetano Veloso, Greg Saunier, Zac Pennington, and Nels Cline.
Bischoff has quickly made a major impression on New York's music scene, connecting with both the indie rock and the new music communities. In February, the Wordless Music Orchestra performed a track-by-track recreation of his album at a sold-out Merkin Hall performance which launched the Ecstatic Music Festival. In May, Byrne and Kickstarter phenom Amanda Palmer joined him on-stage alongside yMusic at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Festival curated by Aaron and Bryce Dessner from The National. Since then Jherek has been touring the world as Palmer's opening act and part of her band.
