The Prodigal Son
Baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier found music to be the intersection of faith and beauty, creating compositions in which earthly aesthetics are inseparable from a reverence for the mystical. Here, the esteemed William Christie leads his renowned vocal and instrumental ensemble, Les Arts Florissants, through three of Charpentier’s rarely heard, richly textured sacred motets: The Prodigal Son, Miseremini mei, and Cecilia, Virgin and Martyr, a paean to the patron saint of music.
Pre-concert lecture by Benjamin Sosland at 6:15 in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse.
This performance is part of the Great Performers Chamber Orchestras series.
This performance will be followed by a White Light Lounge.
